Archiving existing materials and recording a history of the cemetery

Our Archiving Volunteers are preserving and digitizing the past and present of this historic land. Starting with the original deed of purchase for $1 from the neighboring white-owned cemetery, the land has been maintained and paid for by the local community. The goal of the Archiving Volunteers is to preserve and digitize the history of the South Bay Historic Chinese Cemetery for current and future historians.

Monument fundraiser

With your help, we hope to preserve the history of this land with a stone monument. Some of the bones are interred in the cemetery, and every year the organization holds Ching Ming Jie festivities. We estimate this mural will cost up to $10,000 and fundraising for this permanent memorial will be one of our main goals.

Community Engagement through a newsletter

As part of our goal of keeping the history of the Chinese Cemetery alive in the next generation, we will be engaging with the community year round through a regular newsletter showcasing opportunities and work from local community members.
